BILL DESCRIPTION:
The Immigrant Resettlement & Welfare Abuse Prevention Act requires tax-exempt organizations to publicly disclose each year:
- How many non-citizens they helped resettle or relocate to the United States
- How many non-citizens they assisted in obtaining welfare benefits
Nonprofits have operated in the shadows while taxpayers foot the bill. This legislation gives the public a clear look at who is facilitating resettlement, who is helping distribute public benefits, and how widespread these activities really are.
LOOKING INTO LEGISLATION:
Hardworking Minnesotans have seen firsthand the devastating consequences of unchecked spending and the lack of oversight that fostered massive fraud in our state. That’s why I was proud to work with my colleague and friend, Congressman Brad Finstad, to introduce the Immigrant Resettlement & Welfare Abuse Prevention Act.
Nonprofits have quietly helped steer non-citizens into taxpayer-funded programs and assisted in resettlement efforts with almost no public accountability. Meanwhile, working families are left paying the price through higher taxes and strained services.
Our legislation would require any tax-exempt organization involved in resettlement or welfare assistance for non-citizens to fully disclose what they are doing and how many people they are helping. If taxpayer dollars are connected to these activities, the public deserves to know exactly where that money is going.
Here in Minnesota, the wave of fraud that unfolded under Democrat leadership has exposed just how vulnerable our federal programs have become when oversight is treated as an afterthought. Congressman Finstad and I are stepping forward with this bill to close those gaps and put real reporting standards in place before more damage is done.
You sent me to Congress to work for you, and that’s exactly what I’m doing with this legislation. I will continue to stand firm in this fight to bring transparency to our system.
