Hearing Protection Act

Bill Summary: The Hearing Protection Act, included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, seeks to eliminate outdated federal restrictions and taxes on suppressors (silencers). Specifically, it would remove suppressors from the National Firearms Act of 1934, ending the $200 tax and lengthy registration process.

Status: Passed House via H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act

Our Take:

For too long, law-abiding Americans have been burdened by unnecessary regulations and taxes on items like suppressors—rules that do nothing to deter criminals but only entangle responsible gun owners in red tape and paperwork.

Removing suppressors from the NFA is a common-sense reform. Suppressors are safety devices that reduce noise and protect hearing, and there is no justification for treating them differently than any other accessory.

The Senate now has a golden opportunity to not only pass this needed reform, but to go further by ending other burdensome taxes and regulations that criminalize responsible citizens for owning common firearms and accessories like short-barreled rifles and pistol braces.

As someone who has long been an outspoken advocate for disabled shooters and veterans, I have consistently stood against efforts to ban pistol stabilizing braces. Backdoor gun control is unconstitutional. Therefore, it’s time for the Senate to join the House and act decisively to preserve our Second Amendment rights.
