H.R.5796 – Protecting Rural Seniors’ Access to Care Act

Title: H.R.5796 – Protecting Rural Seniors’ Access to Care Act would prohibit the Secretary of Health and Human Services from finalizing a misguided rule regarding minimum staffing for nursing facilities, which has and will continue to cause nursing home closures, especially in our rural communities.

Status: Referred to the Subcommittee on Health (Committee on Energy and Commerce)

Our Take:

As we watched the closure of a nursing home in Arlington, it’s clear that the Biden administration’s ridiculous federal staffing regulations are directly responsible for displacing our seniors. These rules require more staff per patient, including a requirement that a registered nurse be on site around the clock.

I’ve been a vocal opponent of this from the start, warning that regulations like this would devastate rural communities like ours. Myself and Congressman Greg Pence sponsored the Protecting Rural Seniors’ Access to Care Act, which would block this rule. And I also led a joint resolution of congressional disapproval to challenge it.

Sadly, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris do not care about the impact of their one-size-fits-all ideas. Their policies demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding of rural America’s needs and resources. We need policies that support our local communities and ensure our seniors have access to the care they deserve.

While this administration continues its apathetic war on rural seniors, I will fight even harder to make sure rural grandmas and grandpas aren’t evicted and left to fend for themselves.
