H.R. 5283, Protecting our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act of 2023

H.R. 5283, Protecting our Communities from Failure to Secure the Border Act of 2023 aims to prohibit the use of Federal funds to provide housing to specified aliens on any land under the administrative jurisdiction of the Federal land management agencies.

Status: Passed House (224-203)

This bill is a vital step in ensuring that taxpayer dollars are not used to house illegal aliens on public lands. It’s unsustainable, illegal, and does nothing to solve the crisis on our southern border. By prohibiting the use of federal funds for that purpose, we aim to reinforce the rule of law governing public land. Congress must uphold immigration laws and hold the Biden administration and cities like New York responsible for the immigration crisis they created and vocally welcomed.

“[The Natural Resources Committee] were doing a great amount of oversight and discovered this use of public land. I don’t see [H.R. 5283] as bashing or an immigration issue; I see this as [New York City and the Biden Administration] were not following the law… I don’t see this as a messaging bill. I see this as one where we are trying to make sure that they are following the law that is in place and making sure that we protect the public’s lands.”
